Just as he did on the Oprah Winfrey Show, Howard F. Lyman, in his book Mad Cowboy, has taken on the meat and dairy industries reporting little known, but vital information, to the public in the process.

While I am reviewing a book I jot down points that I find particularly interesting or important. When I finished reading Mad Cowboy I had several pages of valuable information found in  this comprehensive and interesting book.

Lyman effectively addresses the popular subjects of Creutzfeldt-Jacob disease (CJD) and recombinant bovine growth hormone (rBGH) in the chapters "Mad Cows and Bureaucrats" and "Biotech Bullies." He also stresses the connection between the natural world we live in and how the growing and killing of cattle for food for our species threatens not only our health, but also the health of the plant. Lyman calls it as he sees it and not even environmentalists escape his critical and insightful comments. "To be an environmentalist who happens to eat meat is like being a philanthropist who doesn’t happen to give to charity." (page 122)

Mad Cowboy: Plain Truth from the Cattle Rancher Who Won’t Eat Meat      Mad Cowboy: Plain Truth from the Cattle Rancher Who Won’t Eat Meat is a book that I strongly recommend to anyone who is concerned about their health, animal welfare and/or the health of our planet.
