Living with horses is not for
everyone and buying a horse is a big move. You're taking on the
responsibility for a living creature who will depend on you for
everything from food to exercise to quality of life. Happily, you can enjoy
horseback riding without owning a horse. In fact, you can enjoy horses
without ever meeting one in person.
A horse isn't a dog or
cat. He can't live in the house and sleep on the bed, no matter how he
might act as if he would like to. A horse's care is also outside the
normal experience of many of the people who take one on. Despite their
size, horses are delicate creatures, and because of their size and basic
nature, prone to injure themselves and others.
But horses are magical.
Horses are generous. Horses are beautiful. Horses touch people in ways no other animal can.
And some people are born with a "horse crazy" gene.
