The Importance of Humane Education
Why do we have animal shelters?
Because too many people regard pets as disposable
possessions.
Why do we have neglect cases?
Because some people do not consider animals
important enough to take their responsibilities towards them seriously.
Why do we have
abuse cases?
Because a few people enjoy victimizing weaker beings,
whether animals, children or women.
The common denominator is attitude.
Attitude affects everything. Attitude determines who
succeeds in life. Attitude determines how animals are treated.
Every day, animal shelters help animals without a home
and SPCA constables rescue animals who are abused. Saving one animal makes a difference.
But each abusive or neglectful situation is a symptom of a deeper, more pervasive problem.
It's an attitude problem.
Education changes attitudes
Attitudes are best changed through a
comprehensive program of humane education aimed primarily at children, particularly in
upper elementary school.
Let's invest in a
better world
for people and animals.
Let's invest in humane education.
What
Dr. Randall Lockwood
says about the role of humane societies
in the prevention of violence.
