animalINK rating Reviewed by: Elizabeth Gredley Chapter Titles Like other books I have read in the "Dummies" series, Cats for Dummies isn't for dummies at all. It is a very accessible, comprehensive but easy-to-read reference on different aspects of living with cats from choosing the right companion to dealing with the inevitable parting. Along the way, it gives lots of tips and techniques for keeping both cats and their people healthy and sane. While the book might not contain enough technical detail for the serious cat breeder, it has more than enough for the rest of us -- including well-presented arguments for spaying and neutering. Spadafori takes a lively approach to everything feline. Along with the standard cat care advice the newly adopted cat person needs, there are enough interesting titbits of information and "I wish I'd thought of that" moments scattered throughout to satisfy the experienced cat person as well. She also has the courage to honestly assess different sources for cats including pet stores, the neighbours and no-kill animal shelters. This is one of the best all-round reference books for cat "owners" that I have read. It was enjoyable reading as I remembered kittens climbing curtains and recognized the blink greeting of my older cat. Beyond it being a good read, though, it's a handbook to return to as needed.
